Putting old furniture to good use

Crews from the Arc of Clark County collect donations from Cadet’s office.

Ever wonder what to do with items no longer needed when you reorganize and remodel?

This is what we were faced with recently when we began our office redesign.  We found ourselves with built-in cabinets, doors, furniture and office supplies that we no longer needed. Instead of sending it to the landfill, we opted to donate to three different local charities:

  • Habitat for Humanity ReStore, which sells reclaimed materials and items for building projects. Profits from the donations go to support build projects in our community.
  • The Arc of Clark County, which helps support people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
  • Fruit Valley Resource Center, which supports low-income families in the Fruit Valley Neighborhood in Vancouver.  Resource center allows families to come in and “shop” for household items needed for free.

In donating our items we no longer needed we were able to reduce, reuse and recycle the items while supporting the local community. We didn’t forget our internal community either. We set up an area with things we no longer needed in our warehouse so our employees could take a few items home too.

The remodel is just about complete, little did we know when we began this process that the community would benefit from our office transformation.  It has been a good feeling to pass on the items to a new homes.
