Our shipping team began rearranging our factory store inventory and parcel packaging line in May. We're literally breaking down walls to better serve you. Over the past two weeks our shipping team (with the help of a few other helpful individuals) has been working on a big layout change with the ultimate goal of getting more small packages out the door in a shorter amount of time.
Our shipping and maintenance teams work to rearrange equipment used to prepare shipments. Right now our parcel team, which sends out individual customer orders, can get about 800 packages out the door in a 12-hour shift. Ron Wolfe, who manages our shipping team, thinks that we can get that time down to 9.5 hours with a few minor improvements. To reach our goal of getting 1,000 packages out the door in a 10-hour shift by 2017, more substantial changes are needed. "We know to make that time we had to make a physical change," Ron said. In other words, space and layout was limiting the team's efficiency. That's where the wall cutting comes in. Last week the team cut down part of a wall between the shipping area and where we keep the reconditioned heaters we sell on our factory store. Since then they've rearranged the factory store heaters and the area where they prepare small orders. The new layout created more area to set up large orders, made the factory store heaters easier to access and will reduce travel time for our shipping team while they're building orders - which will set them up for success in the future.
