What can I put in front of my heater?

Nothing. Oh, were you looking for more of an answer than that? Let's get into the nitty-gritty of clearance requirements: We get a lot of questions from folks who want to know if they can put furniture in front of our heaters. As we said above: Don't do it. And it isn't just furniture, it isn't safe to put anything in front of your heater. That includes drapes, paper, bedding, and people. When there is something in front of your heater, air flow is restricted preventing it from, well, circulating air and doing its job. That may damage the heater or cause its safety feature to trip, which would mean you'll need to manually reset the heater. As a rule of thumb you should allow for 3-feet of clearance in front of the heater and 6 inches to either side and above the heater. Specific requirements may vary from product to product. For more detailed safety information, please consult the owner’s guide for your heater.

If you have limited space in your room or don't want your heater to get in the way of furniture layout, we have a solution just for you. Our newest heater, the Apex 72, works just like our other wall heaters but is instead mounted 72-90 inches high your wall. That means you can put furniture where you like and you actually gain more square footage of living space. They’re also great for peace of mind for homes with children or pets because the heating element is out of reach. If your heater is not running the way it should, double checking to make sure all clearance recommendations are met is a great first step to figuring out what the problem is. And as always, feel free to reach out to us directly for additional help.
